Beavers fall to top seeded Earlham in HCAC Quarterfinal

By: Colton Steiner

RICHMOND, Ind. - After finishing the 2025 regular season with a record of 13-19, their 2-7 conference record would be enough to give Bluffton the no. 8 seed in the HCAC Tournament, sending the Beavers to face the no. 1 seeded Earlham College Quakers. Earlier in the season, the Beavers fell to the Quakers 3-1, but with the HCAC Quarterfinals at hand, it would be anyone's game. While the Beavers made it a close one, Earlham came out on top with a 3-1 victory over Bluffton, sending the Beavers home and ending their season. Earlham advances to the HCAC semi-finals with a matchup against Hanover on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m.

Coming out of the first set, Bluffton would get in a good rhythm to end the set, going up 1-0 after winning 27-25 to start the contest. The Beavers would be efficient, hitting .242 for the set, while holding the Quakers to a hitting percentage of .190 in set one. Earlham found its groove, however, cruising to 25-14 and 25-11 wins in sets two and three. In the position of being down 2-1, Bluffton fought hard in the fourth set, going back and forth until ultimately, the home team would come out on top with a 31-29 win, sealing the 3-1 win for the Quakers.

Jenna Woods (DeGraff/Riverside) had an outstanding day at the net, spiking 19 kills at a rate of .189. Also contributing at the net was Madison Brentlinger (Indian Lake) who added eight kils. Bekah Pack (Lexington) was right behind her with seven. Emma Organ (Lambertville, MI/St. Ursula Academy) was all over the court, scooping up 21 digs in the match, with Gabby Williams (West Liberty/West Liberty-Salem) recording a game-high 30 assists to go along with eight digs.
