BLUFFTON, Ohio - Bluffton hosted Wittenberg University on Wednesday, Oct. 8, in the Sommer Center. The Tigers showed their strength, dominating all three sets as they cruised to a 3-0 sweep of the Beavers, holding Bluffton under 20 points in all three sets. With the loss, the Beavers fell to 10-13 overall, while the Tigers improved to 10-7 on the season.
Cruising to a 25-13 win in set one, Wittenberg was able to hold Bluffton to a hitting percentage of -.115, while hitting .333 with a 12-5 kill advantage. While Bluffton would start the second set with a quick 6-1 lead, the Tigers bounced back and took control, winning 25-19. In going up 2-0, Wittenberg had a slight 11-10 edge in total kills, but hit .200 for the set while the Beavers struggled at the net, hitting -.028.
Down two sets to none, the Beavers were unable to get any offense going as the Tigers were dominant in the clincher, winning 25-11 to seal the match and the 3-0 sweep. Wittenberg had just three more kills than Bluffton, but 11 errors at the net proved costly, leading to a -.214 hitting percentage in set three. The Tigers finished the contest with a .261 clip in the final set.
Leading the Beavers with nine kills was Jenna Woods (DeGraff/Riverside), who also recorded a pair of service aces. Recording 15 digs was Emma Organ (Lambertville, MI/St. Ursula Academy), with Gabby Williams (West Liberty/West Liberty-Salem) tallying 12 assists for Bluffton.
The Beavers will put this loss behind them as they get set to host HCAC-rival Hanover on Saturday, Oct. 11, in the Sommer Center with a 1 p.m. start time. Come out and support your Beavers.
