LIMA, Ohio - The Bluffton University Swim and Dive Team hosted their final home meet against Ashland University and Ohio Northern University while also celebrating their seniors on Friday, Jan. 23. Along with celebrating the seniors, Bluffton had many notable performances.
Senior Sydney Grisier (Bryan) was one of our seniors whom we celebrated and she had a great performance in diving. Grisier placed 6th in the 1-meter diving with 6 dives, getting a score of 139.10. She also competed in the 11-dive session, placing 6th with a score of 266.30. That gave her the record for 11 dives in 1-meter!
Sophomore Jami Baker (Lowell, Ind.) had some outstanding performances. Baker competed in the 1000-yard freestyle, placing 2nd with a time of 12:26.31. That gives her the record by cutting over 3 minutes off the original mark! Baker placed second in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 35.20, putting her 4th all-time in the record book. In her final event, she competed in the 100-yard breaststroke, placing 2nd with a time of 1:17.32.
Junior Juliana Brooks (Canton/McKinley) had notable performances. Brooks competed in the 200-yard free, placing 2nd with a time of 2:46.41. She also competed in the 100-yard IM, placing 2nd with a time of 1:27.65, which puts her 5th all-time in the record book!
Sophomore Landon Gardner (Whitehall, Mich./Grand Haven) had amazing performances at the meet. Gardner competed in the 50-yard breaststroke, placing 2nd with a time of 33.68, which gave him the school record! Gardner also competed in the 100-yard breaststroke, placing 3rd with a time of 1:15.07, which puts him 4th all-time in the record books. His final event was the 100-yard IM, placing 2nd with a record-breaking time of 1:05.89!
Senior Riley Bruns (Maria Stein/Marion Local) was our other senior we celebrated, and he also competed in all his events with excellent finishes. Bruns swam the 50-yard breaststroke, placing 3rd with a time of 36.06, which puts him in 5th all-time in the record books! Bruns competed in the 50-yard free, placing 3rd with a time of 28.50. His final event for the night was the 50-yard fly, placing 2nd with a time of 30.58.
