KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Bluffton University women's basketball team opened a 40-14 lead at the break and rode that to a convincing 66-35 win over Kalamazoo on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025. The visitors improved to 2-0 on the season, while the Hornets remain winless at 0-3.
Back-to-back Madison Brown (Montpelier/North Central) layins followed by a Lacie Fenstermaker (Pandora-Gilboa) triple gave the Beavers a 7-0 lead just over two minutes into the game. Two more Brown buckets and a Mackenzea Townsend (Union City/Mississinawa Valley) chip shot pushed the advantage to 15-4 at the 4:41 mark of the opening stanza. Senior Katie Sims (Perrysburg) dialed long distance with a minute to play before freshman Macee Heckathorn (Kenton) gave the Beavers a 22-9 lead heading to the second quarter.
Junior Jessica Moore (Trenton/Edgewood) finally broke the ice in period two when she hit from outside the arc at the 7:44 mark. Fenstermaker's second trey made it 32-11 and then she dropped in consecutive deuces. Lillian Wakefield (Wooster/Northwestern) capped Bluffton's first half splurge with a jumper that pushed the spread to 40-14.
Moore cashed another three in the third quarter and Alexis Stevely (Marion/Wynford) got to the rack with 16 seconds on the clock, sending Bluffton to the final period with a commanding 55-28 lead.
Following a pair of Fenstermaker freebies, Heckathorn drilled her second bomb of the night which made it 60-28 less than two minutes into the fourth quarter. Juniors Sharon Keefer (Plain City/Jonathan Alder) and Erin Schaufelberger (Van Wert) capped the 66-35 rout with two-point buckets down the stretch.
Fenstermaker was outstanding for the second straight game, just missing out on her second douible-double of the season. She hit 6-of-8 for 14 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Brown did post her second consecutive double-double, going 7-of-11 for 14 points, while ripping down a game-high 11 boards. Heckathorn chimed in with nine counters and four rebounds. Brown and Sims doled out three assists apiece, while Karlie Niekamp (Tipp City/Fort Recovery) pulled down five rebounds.
Bluffton dominated the paint to the tune of a 36-16 advantage. The Beavers hit 28-of-70 from the field (40.0 percent), including 6-of-22 outside the arc (27.3 percent). Bluffton ripped down 16 more rebounds (52-36), while the home team coughed it up four more times (18-14).
The Beavers are back in the Sommer Center for their third game in eight days on Friday, Nov. 14. Bluffton hosts Kenyon College with a 7 p.m. tipoff.
