BEREA, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's track and field team took a select group to Baldwin Wallace on Thursday, May 8, and Friday, May 9, for the Harrison Dillard Twilight meet, trying to improve national ranks in order to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Junior Coen North (Denver, Col./North) started the weekend off strong on Thursday, winning the Javelin throw with a toss of 56.20 meters.
On Friday, senior Desmond Gist (Detriot, Mich./Trenton) also had a strong day, winning the 110 hurdles with a new season-best time of 14.28 which places him 14th in the nation going into the last week before Selection Sunday. The 14.28 was just two hundredths of a second off his school-record 14.26! Gist also came back and ran a new PR of 55.20 in the 400 hurdles which moved him up to 3rd all time in school history for the Beavers. Senior Russell Lough (Wintersville, Ohio/Indian Creek) ran the 400, clocking a time of 49.86 which placed him in the top 10.
The Beavers have one last meet in hopes of solidifying for a spot to nationals on Thursday, May 15, at Mount Union.
