BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team fell behind 1-0 just over 30 minutes into the match, but Leonardo Campos (Santiago, Chile/Campbellsville University) netted the equalizer just a few seconds later as Bluffton notched a 1-1 tie with Baldwin Wallace on a hot Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024. The Yellow Jackets came into the match with an 11-1-1 mark in the all-time series, but the Beavers snapped their string of seven straight losses, dating back to 1996! Bluffton moved to 1-2-3, while the Jackets stand 4-2-2 overall.
Baldwin Wallace forged a 10-5 advantage in shots during the opening stanza, but the two goals separated by a mere 15 seconds made the score 1-1 at the half. The visitors finished the match with a decided 19-10 edge in total shots, however, none found their way into the net in the second 45 as Bluffton did was unfazed by its history versus BW.
The home team was whistled for three more fouls (7-4). Both teams forced a pair of corner kicks on Wednesday afternoon.
Freshman Devin Homan (Dayton/Stebbins) led the offense with three shots, two on frame, and an assist. Campos scored on one of his two shot attempts.
Senior Angel Velasco-Urbina (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) went down just over 10 minutes into the match following a collision at the top of the box, but sophomore Zach Johnson (Middletown) answered the call, pushing away nine BW shots en route to earning his second tie of the season.
Bluffton is back at the Sears Complex for a noon kickoff with UC-Clermont on Saturday, Sept. 21, before the football team welcomes Trine University for the home opener at 7 p.m. that night!
