The Bluffton University men's golf team will celebrate 2020-21 with three seniors who have been part of the program since it returned to the links for the 2017-18 campaign after a hiatus of over 10 years. The Beavers shot a season-best 330 for 18 holes in 2018-19 and came back with nine rounds lower than that last season. With the best five scoring averages from 2019-20 belonging to freshmen and sophomores, the cupboard is well stocked and the Beavers are ready to hit the links this fall.
Sophomore Evan Kujawa (Toledo/Whitmer) had a sparkling first season at Bluffton, leading the way with a 79.33 scoring average (10th all-time). His 73 at the UNOH Invitational equaled the best round for a Beaver since Scott Bergman fired a 69 in 2004. It also helped him to a school-record 151 for 36 holes!
Seniors Takoda Pratt (Mansfield/Shelby) and Michael Fimiani (Willoughby) averaged 83.70 and 88.50, respectively. Also back for his final season is Julian Lavallee (Jefferson/Jefferson Area).
Junior Carter Mumbower (Newport, MI/Airport) and sophomore Nathan Eberle (Grove City) averaged 82.33 and 82.50, respectively. Sophomore Nick Offenburger (Lexington) and junior Dominic Castelvetere (Ontario) both checked in under 84 with season averages of 83.00 and 83.17 in 2019-20. Rounding out the top 8 for Bluffton were junior Spencer Daniels (Ashland) and Clay Quellhorst (St. Marys/Memorial) who finished with identical averages of 84.50.
Bluffton opens its fall slate at Tiffin on Thursday, Sept. 3. The men will play at the Beaver Fall Classic alongside the women on September 19-20. A series of 10 dates culminates with a short trip to Eagle Rock GC at Defiance on October 18. With the 2020 HCAC Championship at Hidden Creek canceled due to Covid-19, the Beavers will host the 2021 version from April 30-May 2.
