Bluffton picks up thrilling 2-0 victory over Sault College

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton Beavers Valorant squad would seek to pick up their first win in school history after falling to Ashland University in week 1, 2-0. Facing off against the Sault College Cougars, the Beavers would go up 1-0 and look to finish business in game two. In back-and-forth battle that wouldn't end, the Beavers would come out victorious after 14 overtime rounds to come out on top with a 2-0 win. They now sit at 1-1 on the season heading into week three. 

Game one would start with Bluffton jumping ahead 7-5 after starting the first half on defense. They would then hold strong and not allow the Cougars to get the upper hand as they would seal game one with a 13-11 victory to go up 1-0. Starting game two on the map Bind, the two teams would battle, with the Beavers starting on the attack, but heading into the break all notched up at 6-6. While Bluffton managed to hold a 12-9 lead with match point, Sault would claw back into the contest and flip the table, going up 13-12 and now in position to win game two. The Beavers would win the next round and the two teams would go back-and-forth in a game that seemed that have no end in sight. After Bluffton was able to take a 19-18 lead, they would play strong defense and eliminate the remainder of the Cougars squad and defuse the spike, finally bringing an end to an exciting game as they would take game two 20-18 and pick up the 2-0 victory.

An impressive round of performances in game two, with Adam Chrisman (Celina, Ohio / Marion Local) picking up 53 kills and a combat score of 398, while tallying a team-high 11 defuses. Sergio Muniz (Milwaukee, WI / Nathan Hales) would record 36 eliminations, while Andrew Phillips (Westfield, IN / Westfield) would lead the team in assists with 14. 

The Beavers will look ahead to their next competition, where they will face off against the Rochester Institute of Technology on Wednesday, Feb. 25, with a 8 p.m. start time. You can catch all of Bluffton Esports action on Boxcast, Twitch, and YouTube.
