LIMA, Ohio - The Bluffton University swimming and diving team had two meets back-to-back over the weekend. They traveled to Canton, Ohio, to compete against Malone, an NCAA Division II school, on Friday, Nov. 7, and then hosted a home meet on Saturday, Nov. 8, against Anderson and Wittenberg.
This past Friday, the Beavers delivered strong performances at the meet against Malone. The Beavers showcased depth and determination across several events. Leading the way, Jami Baker (Lowell, Ind.) claimed a top finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:20.40. She also snatched 2nd place in the 200-yard free, and a 3rd in the 50-yard free. One of her standouts from Saturday's meet against Anderson and Wittenberg was placing 4th in the 100-yard backstroke with a personal best of 1:11.47. That makes her the 3rd all-time in the record book!
Senior Sydney Grisier (Bryan) had an outstanding performance in the diving and swimming the 1000-yard freestyle both days. Friday night, she swam the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 16:24.40, and the next day she swam again, dropping over 31 seconds (15:55.44)! She placed second in 3-meter diving with a score of 130.30, which is 3rd all-time in the Bluffton record book!
Juliana Brooks (Canton/McKinley) competed for the first time this season at Malone! Some of her notable performances on Friday night included the 100-yard free, where she placed 4th (1:21.35), and the 100-yard backstroke, where she placed 2nd (1:24.19). Brooks competed in the 50-yard free on Saturday with a seasonal best of 32.94!
Landon Gardner (Whitehall, Mich./Grand Haven) placed third in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:36.09, showcasing his versatility across all strokes. His time places Gardner 4th all-time in the record books! Landon put up a solid effort in the 100-yard freestyle (56.84) as he earned fourth place in the event. His 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.18) is now 2nd all-time in the record book!
Bluffton will be back in the pool when it travels to Ohio Wesleyan to compete against the Battling Bishops and Ohio Northern on Friday, Nov. 14. Go Beavers!
